Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine Rheumatologist Named One Of America's Top Doctors
(Boston)-Newton resident Peter A. Merkel, MD, MPH, and director of the Vasculitis Center at Boston Medical Center (BMC) was recently named one of America’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.
The America’s Top Doctors guide, recognized by consumers seeking high-quality medical care, is a trusted and authoritative resource for identifying top doctors in the United States. The selected top doctors are nominated by hospital presidents; vice presidents of medical affairs; and chiefs of service in anesthesiology, obstetrics and gynecology, medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology and surgery; as well as randomly selected board-certified physicians.
Merkel, a professor of medicine in the section of rheumatology and the clinical epidemiology unit at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and performed his residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Master’s of Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health, and later served as a clinical and research fellow in the Division of Rheumatology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
His research interests have focused on designing and conducting clinical trials and clinical epidemiological studies for complex multi-system rheumatic diseases including, vasculitis and scleroderma.
